Daegu Gosan Public Library
Studio AI Architects participated in the UIA-approved international design competition for the Daegu Gosan Public Library in Suseong-gu, Daegu Metropolitan City, South Korea — an open competition attracting entries from architecture firms worldwide.
The brief called for a sustainable community library of approximately 3,100 square meters, designed to reflect the changing role of the public library in an era of shifting knowledge transmission and evolving community demographics. Daegu Metropolitan City framed the project as part of its broader transformation from a distribution-based economy into a knowledge-based city.
Studio AI's proposal approached the library not as a repository but as a social infrastructure — a flexible, community-centered space that could serve multiple generations and uses simultaneously. The design balanced the library's civic presence on the Suseong-gu site with the human scale of the surrounding residential neighborhood, creating spaces that could adapt to the full spectrum of contemporary library programming.
